Sterling silver, turquoise, Mediterranean coral, mother of pearl, shell, bear claw Cuff Bracelet

$1,200.00

This exceptional vintage cuff was created in the early 1970s at the Casa Kakiki workshop in El Paso, Texas. It features sterling silver, natural turquoise, Mediterranean coral, mother of pearl, shell, and an authentic bear claw in a striking, one-of-a-kind design. The workshop was founded by Howard “Hank” Shaw, a Cheyenne from Oklahoma, in the late 1960s. According to his daughter, Mr. Shaw, along with his wife, daughter, and several Tigua Native American artists, collaboratively designed each piece. The Tigua artisans executed the work with remarkable craftsmanship and attention to detail. My father, mother, and I had the privilege of knowing the Shaw family personally. We were frequent guests in their home, and as a child, I was warmly welcomed and exposed to the process of Native American jewelry-making through Hank’s passion and generosity. Hank was larger than life—deeply dedicated to preserving Native American heritage and uplifting Native craftsmanship. Gladys, his wife, was one of the kindest, most welcoming people I have ever met. This cuff is one of many Casa Kakiki pieces that has been in my family’s private collection for nearly 50 years. It is a powerful and elegant example of Native American artistry and cultural preservation. The cuff is adjustable to fit most wrist sizes and weighs 97.1 grams. It is in excellent condition and retains its full presence, charm, and historical value. This is a one-of-a-kind piece, and once it is sold, it will not be available again. Don’t miss the chance to own this extraordinary example of Native American art and family-kept heritage.
