An exceptional vintage Jaeger chronograph crafted in 18K yellow gold and powered by the legendary Calibre 285 manual-wind column-wheel movement. Developed by Universal Genève and Martel in 1932, the Calibre 285 is one of the most important chronograph movements of the twentieth century, establishing the classic two-pusher, two-register layout admired by collectors today.
During this period, Jaeger relied on premier Swiss movement makers for its chronographs. Examples with this movement were signed Jaeger for the French market or Le Coultre / Jaeger-LeCoultre for the American market, with the “285” engraved on the movement. This example is correctly signed Jaeger, adding to its authenticity and historical importance.
The 17-jewel, manual-wind, column-wheel Calibre 285 was produced from the 1930s through the 1950s and is highly regarded for its engineering and design. This example features an elegant 34mm 18K yellow gold case (excluding crown and pushers), the classic bi-compax layout, and has been recently professionally serviced and is fully functional. It features 19mm lugs and a custom-crafted genuine black alligator strap that beautifully complements the warmth of the gold case.
The dial is believed to be original and displays a beautiful natural patina developed over decades, providing the character and originality sought by collectors.
