A true collector’s dream, this rare Verger Frères Louver Art Deco 18K Gold Shutter Watch blends timeless functionality with exceptional elegance. Featuring a distinctive sliding shutter mechanism, it showcases the bold geometric style of the 1920s. Encased in 18K gold, the watch bears French hallmarks and Verger Frères maker’s mark. Running but requiring a full overhaul for proper timekeeping, it shows age-related wear. A pin back with low-karat solder was added, which could be removed by a restorator to reveal more of the maker’s marks. The original winding crown was replaced with a non-original sapphire crown, but a new coral crown may be sourced or reproduced. This is a wonderful estate item, offered as-is and exactly as it was when purchased from the estate. Ferdinand Verger founded his Paris jewelry business in 1872, specializing in women’s watches and creating exquisite cases and jewels. His sons took over in 1921, and Verger Frères became renowned for exceptional craftsmanship, creating pieces for top houses like Cartier, Tiffany, and Van Cleef & Arpels.
