This is an extremely rare example of one of the world’s most famous watches. First introduced by Omega in 1959 the Speedmaster competed with watches from other prestigious watchmakers and was approved for use by U.S. astronauts by N.A.S.A. for use on missions which led to the USA Moon Landing in 1969. The telemeter on this has the rare (DON) dot over 90 and the original 321 movement. This is a survivor with all original dial/alpha hands and ‘don’ bezel. The 2998-4 was a pre-professional model, with the straight case sans crown guards. We have serviced the movement but have left the case and bezel cleaned but unpolished or restored. It even sports a vintage steel watch bracelet contemporaneous from this fine watch’s year of manufacture. The only part that was replaced was the Omega crystal. We carefully sourced and installed an original NOS factory hesalite crystal and gasket set (in order to keep the originality). It’s very unusual to find such a superb running condition and original example. Yes, it comes with the original 1961 box, too!
