A beautiful and authentic Hamilton 950B railway-grade pocket watch, dating to approximately 1953. This is a 16-size, 23-jewel, open-face, lever-set example, with movement serial number S20719. The Hamilton 950B is one of Hamilton’s definitive railway-grade movements, built to the exacting standards required for railroad timekeeping. This example has all the characteristics collectors look for, including its original dial and correct hands, and the movement is running beautifully. The watch is housed in a beautiful original gold-filled case, complete with its distinctive screw-down back and bezel and all of the proper case markings. The back of the case is particularly special, being hand engraved with the monogram “CJ McC.” It is a beautifully executed personal touch that adds tremendous character and helps tell the story of the watch’s age and history.
From the history provided to us, the watch was owned by someone who worked on the railway. It was subsequently passed down through the family and was ultimately sold to us by the owner’s great-grandchildren. While we cannot independently document the complete ownership history, the family provenance is a wonderful and fitting connection to a genuine railway-grade Hamilton. We have not serviced or refinished the case. We have intentionally left it in the condition in which we received it, including its natural patina. We feel that this honest age and wear are part of what makes the watch so appealing and preserve the character of a timepiece that has actually lived a life. With its 1953-era Hamilton 950B movement, original configuration, hand-engraved monogram, railway connection, and natural untouched patina, this is much more than simply an old pocket watch. It is a wonderful piece of American horological and railroad history—a great watch for the serious pocket-watch collector, Hamilton enthusiast, or railroad fan.
